How to win $1 million playing three card poker in Las Vegas

Bet $5 to win $1 million? Caesars Entertainment is making millionaires

You’ve probably heard about professional poker players who regularly take home million-dollar prize pools. But did you ever imagine yourself in their shoes? Well, now’s the time. Even if you don’t spend every waking hour reading dense poker strategy guides filled with complex equations and tables of fractions, you can still walk away with a cool million. In fact, it’s easier than ever…

THE WINNING HAND

Caesars Entertainment casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City are offering up a Three Card Poker “side bet” that’s too incredible to be ignored: Combine your three cards with the dealer’s three cards to make a six-card royal flush in diamonds…and fly home a millionaire. Sound impossible? Tell that to the more than half-dozen players who’ve already taken home the million-dollar prize.

Oh, and if you score a six-card royal flush in a different suit, you won’t go away empty handed; you’ll take home $100,000. Not too shabby, right? (You can confirm this non-shabbiness with the dozen players who’ve taken home the $100k prize.)

The number of million-dollar winners is about to go up. Way up. Caesars properties have expanded the million-dollar side bet to other Vegas casino games. Ultimate Texas Hold’em, Four-Card Poker, Let it Ride—they’re all getting million-dollar boosts.

RULES AND GAMEPLAY: A SUPER-SHORT PRIMER

If you’ve never played Three Card Poker, Ultimate Texas Hold’em or Let it Ride, here’s quick rundown: The hand rankings are the same as the hand rankings in ‘regular’ poker (a pair is good, two pair is better, three-of-a-kind is even better, etc.), only in these games, you don’t compete against other players; you compete against the dealer. So you don’t have to worry about savvy Vegas locals snapping up your hard earned cash. In the poker games with the million-dollar side bets, the players all battle the house. So when the dealer has an awful hand, everybody sitting around the table wins.

(Important exception: If you win the million-dollar prize, that’s on you. Expect the other players to be quite jealous. Sure, you could offer to buy them a round of shots, but in Vegas casinos, the shots are free to begin with. So, yeah, come prepared to deal with the resentment.)

If you’ve never played any of the games described in this story, you might want to start with Three Card Poker because the optimal strategy for that game is super-easy to remember: Play every three-card hand that has a queen or better. Well, technically you’re supposed to play Q-6-4 and better, but if you forget that, just remember to look for a queen and go from there.

If you follow that rule and buy-in with enough chips, you’re going to have a good run at the least. And at the most, of course, you’ll find yourself a million dollars richer.

So ask yourself: What would you do with the money?
